Analyzer socket-send-recv-message
Name
socket-send-recv-message - Socket Send/Recv Message Flame Graph
This analyzer profiles socket send and receive operations across all applications. It captures stack traces during socket I/O operations, tracking both data transmission and reception at the system call level. The analyzer generates flame graphs that visualize the call paths leading to socket operations, helping identify network I/O patterns, inefficient data transfer operations, and potential bottlenecks in network communication. This is useful for diagnosing network performance issues and understanding application-level socket usage patterns.
Resource Category
Network I/O.
Application Type & Technical Stack
- All
Command Line Syntax
The analyzer can be invoked directly on the command-line via the orxray
utility from the openresty-xray-cli software package.
Alternatively, the analyzer can also be invoked manually or automatically on the web console UI of OpenResty XRay (like on the Advanced web page).
# PID is the target process PID.
orxray analyzer run socket-send-recv-message -p PID
# trace a shell command directly
orxray analyzer run socket-send-recv-message -c SHELL_CMD
# PGID is the process group ID or any process's PID within the target process
# group.
orxray analyzer run socket-send-recv-message -p -PGID
# trace any processes started from the specified executable path.
orxray analyzer run socket-send-recv-message --exe /path/to/exe/file
Tracing Multiple Processes
Supported.
Output Formats
- Flame Graphs
